From time to time we like to share tools and resources that we think are helpful to our certified organic operations. In this post, we are excited to introduce you to the Organic Trade Association (OTA) Organic Fraud Prevention Solutions.
The Organic Fraud Prevention Solutions is a voluntary program designed to help organic businesses minimize fraud. The program uses a risk-based process for devloping and implementing an organic fraud prevention plan. It strengthens a handler’s organic system plan by focusing on buyer responsiblity and supply chain management.
Early adopters of the OTA’s tool are likely to be better prepared for upcoming rule changes. The USDA’s pending Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) proposed rule includes requirements for certified operations to have established fraud prevention procedures. Certified handling operations that are proactive and work on implementing fraud prevention practices now, will surely be ahead of the curve when SOE is finalized.
We encourage you to check out the OTA’s website at the link below to determine if the Organic Fraud Prevention Solutions program might be a good fit for your operation.
